Michelle joined the team from New Zealand where she was working in convention and event industry for the past ten years.

Michelle’s event experience includes banquet/corporate dinners, conferences and exhibitions in convention centres and off site catering venues.

Michelle’s career also includes developing systems and processes for labour management in convention/event and restaurant venues.

Sophie Andrews

Sophie is currently working abroad for the London Olympic Games as a Welcome Centre Team Leader at the Olympic Village.  The team are looking forward to hearing all of her stories and welcoming her back to the Centre after the games have finished.

Sophie joins the National Convention Centre team after working at another property in the InterContinental Hotels Group family, Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley.

Sophie was based there for three and a half years across all food and beverage outlets after graduating from Southern Cross University with a Bachelor of Business in Hotel and Resort Management in 2008.

Sophie brings passion and commitment to both the National Convention Centre’s team and the events at the Centre.

Assistant Banquet Services Manager

Vai Sadavarte

Vai’s solid background in banquet operations makes him a great asset to the National Convention Centre team, and his knowledge spans both the local and national hospitality scene.

As Assistant Banquet Services Manager, Vai is integral for providing support to the floor team during events, and is a key contact between the Event Coordinators and client to ensure the event is delivered to plan and at the highest level.

With a passion for cooking and cuisine, Vai considers himself a ‘foodie’ and enjoys experimenting with food, often attempting to replicate meals he’s eaten in restaurants. This food-fervor sets Vai in good stead to deliver exceptional catering experiences for clients.

Brandon Ko

Brandon began his career at the National Convention Centre in 2007 after ten years working in the restaurant industry. Brandon moved into a Banquet Supervisor’s role in 2008, where he was then promoted into his current role as an Assistant Banquet Services Manager.

Brandon successfully completed his Advanced Diploma in Hotel Management at the Canberra Institute of Technology and completed his Bachelor Degree of Hotel Management at the University of Canberra.

During his free time, Brandon enjoys travelling, playing and watching sports and listening to music.

Client Services Manager

Ringo Fung

Ringo has been a pivotal part of the National Convention Centre team for over 10 years.

In his role as Client Services Manager, Ringo is the onsite liaison between event organisers and the Centre’s operational team; working closely with organisers to ensure each aspect of an event unfolds according to plan and that last minute requirements or changes are fulfilled. Ringo is particularly involved in functions that require a higher degree of sensitivity or protocol.

With a passion and flair for visual displays, Ringo consistently ensures no two events are identical and enjoys sharing his extensive banquet knowledge with staff. An expert at matching specific function themes and banquets presentation, Ringo’s touch adds a unique personality to each event.

Ringo has a passion for travelling, especially to Hong Kong, and loves to relax with a game of badminton, chess or a movie.

Banquet Supervisor

Beau Brandon

Beau joined the team at the National Convention Centre in June 2009, during this time Beau has held the position of Team Leader and other supervisory positions. Beau brings to the team a strong operational knowledge of the Centre, exceptional customer service skills and a solid foundation of InterContinental Hotels Group polices and procedures.

Beau is currently studying mathematical applications at University while working with the team in banquet services.

In his spare time Beau enjoys skiing and working on cars.
