The National Convention Centre was thrilled to welcome Mike Scheumann to the team in early 2010.
Most recently Mike held the position of Executive Sous Chef at the Burswood Entertainment Complex in Perth, but his passion for food began at an early age. He was inspired to pursue a culinary career and follow in his mother’s footsteps, also a chef in their homeland Germany.
Since then Mike has travelled all over the world perfecting his love of fusion cuisine in exotic destinations such as Bermuda, Egypt, Maldives, New Zealand, Qatar, Dubai and now Australia. Some of the more colourful highlights of his career included creating elaborate menus for Michael Jordan, Tina Turner, Michael Douglas and the Crown Prince of Thailand. Mike was even the appointed the private Chef for Sheik Al Thani, Ruler of Qatar at the Opening Ceremony of the 15th Asian Games in Doha, State of Qatar and has hosted his own live cooking show with one of the largest private European TV channels, RTL.
Mike’s vision is to offer guests a fresh, healthy and innovative culinary experience. Recognising the importance of food and wine to every event, his menus combine irresistible flavours and exquisite presentation that attest to his considerable talent. A passionate supporter of local producers, Mike places emphasis on sourcing local and organic produce to offer guests a true taste of the Canberra region.
Mike’s love of food is second only to his passion for his family, and outside of the kitchen Mike loves camping and skiing with his wife and young son.

Originally from Malaysia, Halim moved to Canberra from Brisbane in 1989. He has worked for IHG for 20 years and enjoys golf, fishing and music.
Storeman

Nick joined the National Convention Centre team in March 2009 as a Casual Banquet Attendant before progressing to become our full time Storeman – the main point of contacting when sending and recieveing goods.
Working in all aspects of hospitality before moving to the National Convention Centre, Nick has vast experience and knowledge throughout the industry. He has previously worked at the Durham in Kingston and the Statesman in Curtain.
In his spare time, Nick enjoys rugby and playing guitar. Nick has proven himself to be a valuable asset to the National Convention Centre team.
