Celebrating fashion, arts and culture

FASHFEST, a stunning three-day fashion experience, cultivates modern, emerging fashion, design and creative talent on Australia’s capital stage for the world to see.

For the second year in a row FASHFEST was held at the National Convention Centre Canberra, bigger and bolder than ever. Six shows over three nights was an amazing operational feet, seamlessly executed.

The three-day bump in is the first stage of this major event, and the most crucial. Access directly into the Exhibition Hall through the side doors gave FASHFEST organisers and sponsors easy access to heavy machinery and loading ease. This supported the building of the 45-metre catwalk, the installation of elite sound and lighting equipment and a massive tiered seating system, all within tight deadlines and ready for the last-minute rehearsals and fine-tuning needed before opening night.

The scope and the functionality in the National Convention Centre Canberra provides ongoing opportunities and flexibility for FASHFEST each year. The Centre’s refurbishment, with its new modern look, provided a perfect backdrop for FASHFEST 2016.“ Clint Hutchinson, Chief Executive Officer, FASHFEST.

The Exhibition Hall was brought to life with inspirational sound and lighting transforming into a glorious backdrop for the biggest runway event seen in the nation’s capital. More than 40 local, national and international designers showcased their new collections on the catwalk. Musicians and short film makers were a huge part of this year’s success. FASHFEST 2016 saw 25 live musical artists and DJs bring the fashion to life with pop, hip hop, house, soul and other genres. Six original films were intertwined into the six shows, each created by an emerging local filmmaker, adding a new element to the overall production.

During the event, the National Convention Centre Canberra was packed with more than 200 models, musicians, volunteers, makeup and hair artists, plus the 25 directors and producers covering all capacities including design, backstage and technical. All up, FASHFEST had one of the largest onsite crews collaborating with the Operations and Events departments at the Centre.

FASHFEST is growing in magnitude, purpose and artistic collaboration. FASHFEST 2016 hit new heights with six shows over three nights. The National Convention Centre Canberra team took this innovative approach in their stride and facilitated the exceptional service, planning and execution of the annual red-carpet event.” Andrea Hutchinson, Managing Director, FASHFEST.
